Guernsey Sports Commission Family Fund Day 2020

Some of Sarnia Sword Club's experienced hands presented their sport to the public at the Guernsey Sports Commission's vibrant Family Fun Day.

The junior Musketeers' club coaches were on hand at Saumarez Park to give the island's youngsters a taste of this Olympic sport, while the club's senior coaches were also present to cater for mum and dad.

With perfect weather and sound support from the commission, the club was kept busy with a constant stream of eager potential Musketeers, while club members also gave demonstrations of adult coaching and of actual fencing.

A game of 'hit the tennis ball' also proved a major attraction. It was not as easy as at looks, as the kids - and some adults - found out.

'It is good to see so many people come to try out sport, as they are the future of fencing in Guernsey,' said senior coach Meyrisk Simmonds.

'We would like to thank the Guernsey Sports Commission for giving us such a wonderful opportunity to demonstrate our sport to Guernsey's public in such lovely surroundings and, perhaps, to recruit some more valuable members to our ranks.'

SSC look forward to co-operating with the commission on similar successful ventures in the future.

They are inviting younsters who want an extra taste to join their thriving Musketeers section at Beau Sejour, on Thursday evenings between 6.30 and 7.30.
